Sidney J. Blackston

June 6, 1940 ~ October 30, 2018 (age 78)

ELLAVILLE, GA --- Mr. Sidney Jackson Blackston, 78, of Ellaville, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Magnolia Manor of Marion County.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Pine Level Cemetery in Taylor County, GA with Rev. Bryan Bentley and Mr. Paul Mason officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 6:00-8:00PM.

     Mr. Blackston was born June 6, 1940 in Mauk, GA to the late Loren Jackson Blackston and Lois Hayes Blackston.  Mr. Blackston was a hard worker having worked in a cotton mill in Manchester, Ga at the age of 18, and then worked in Columbus, GA as a painter, then at Bluebird, Cullip, Redman and at Triple A.  He was a welder, truck driver and was working as a maintenance man with Triple A when he retired.  He also helped Cecil Reynolds and Rufus Peede on their farms.  Mr. Blackston enjoyed fishing, drag racing and working on cars.  He was of the Baptist faith.

     Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Carol Smith Blackston; one son, Sidney Mark Blackston and wife Myra of Ellaville; one daughter, Cynthia Stencil and husband Tony of Warner Robins, GA; four brothers, Jerry Blackston and wife Lisa of Mobile, AL, Paul Blackston and wife Colleen of Ellaville, Tommy Blackston and wife Anna of Mauk, GA, Jackie Blackston and wife Becky of Mauk, GA; five sisters, Arlene Jordan and husband Eric of Tazewell, GA, Janice Bryant of Athens, GA, Ann Montgomery of Butler, GA; Cathy Blackston of Grand Bay, AL and Judy McCrory and husband Bob of Waverly Hall, GA.  Also surviving are three grandchildren, Felicia Underwood and husband Jeremy of Tazewell, GA, Jonathan Stencil of Warner Robins, GA, Joey Stencil and wife Ashley of Warner Robins, GA; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

     Pallbearers will include Justin Gladden, Doug Gladden, Michael Paul Blackston, Jeremy Underwood, Cody Lane, and Casey Thompkins.

     The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Magnolia Manor of Marion County, Activities Fund, 349 Geneva Road, Buena Vista, GA  31803 or Kindred Hospice, 100 Brookstone Centre Parkway, Columbus, GA  31904.
